The USS Indianapolis

While Dad was in Cape Cod, he took this picture at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. This is the mast from the USS Indiapolis.

On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis sank after being hit by a Japanese sub. Of 1,196 men on board, approximately 300 went down with the ship. The remainder, about 900 men, were left floating in the water and were accidentally discovered 4 days later - only 316 survived.

This information was taken from http://www.ussindianapolis.org

We remember all of those lost at sea
